I teach Mehndi very selectively & rarely.

Non-Traditional Henna Application

Suitable for Concerts, Parties, Festivals & Events.
This version is inexpensive and quick. I prepare the skin, and apply the henna paste in the chosen design. I allow the surface of the paste to dry (about 10min); then I apply the first coat of lemon juice and sugar (the longer the paste is on the skin, the darker it will go, you are trying to slow how quickly it dries up). I then provide you with a package of lemon/sugar and instructions for you to keep dabbing the henna paste yourself so that you can move around freely while enjoying your henna.
When the paste comes off, your “tattoo” will start off a vibrant orange colour that turns into a dark brown over a 2 day period.
Lasts between 5 days - 15 days.

Traditional Henna Application

Suitable for Home-Parties, Private Appointments and Weddings

Traditionally applied Mehndi is more involved. This method takes between 1 ½ hour up to 3 hours per person, depending on the size and intricacy of the design.
The client should book this at least 2 days prior. There are preparations that the client can do for the skin two days or even 2 weeks in advance that will subtly affect your results.
For this method of application I use more a more expensive and involved recipe.
I use a blend of oils on the skin and then spend 15min-30min heating the skin through a combination of gentle massage and a hot pad or hot water bottle.
I apply the henna paste in the chosen design, then watch the surface of the henna paste closely for an hour, dabbing the henna every few minutes with lemon juice/sugar. The henna is then wrapped up and left on for 8 - 24 hours.
Results: the temporary tattoo starts off as a deep rose wood colour that darkens over two days. The temporary tattoo should last between 10 days up to 1 month.

Weddings

In 2001, I was the henna artist for Kelowna’s CHBC Newscaster
Mohini Singh and her Wedding Party.

I customize for your needs. I recommend doing the Traditional Application Method for the Bride and the Non-Traditional Application for your Wedding Party.

My Services

I always make fresh henna for every client, every time. I know every ingredient that goes into the henna.I do both traditional application methods and non-traditional. I use the non-traditional application method for concerts, festivals, events, and parties.

I DO NOT USE BLACK HENNA.
Black henna has PPDs (Para-phenylenediamine) in it to make it go black. Henna is not naturally black. Henna is a strong dye and is nearly impossible to drastically change it's colour. You can get different tones and hues of henna, but all those tones and hues are working within the orange/brown/red/purple spectrum. Most ingredients that can be used to alter the tone or hue of henna are not available in North America. The dangers of black henna are caused by it's toxic state that sometimes leads to hospitalization. In extreme cases, a person can be recovering from black henna for weeks in the hospital. Some people get the toxins into their bloodstream. Others don't have a reaction and others yet, will have their skin bubble up in a chemical burn in the design you had applied on you, leaving a permanent scar. PPD is normally used in hair dyes. If you ask me, I will always tell you what my ingredient list is. No matter who you get henna done from, be very careful that your artist knows exactly what goes into their henna and is willing to share that information.
